Poison Idea and the Doll Hut
Sick Pit, Beer, and Camaraderie
Poison Idea is too big for this little club, so we found ourselves lucky to be there to see them. The enthusiasm and rowdy pit activities were definitely at an all time high on the tiny floor of Anaheim’s Doll Hut. Maybe too much enthusiasm for guitarist Brandon Bentley and Lead singer, Jerry A. who were less than excited to see Brandon take a fist to the face in the middle of their set. Poison Idea delivered a great set in spite of the poor sound quality and minimal stage area including: “Discontent” (Feel the Darkness, 1990), “Burned for the Last Time” (Ian Mackaye, 1989), and “Cop and Attitude” (Kings of Punk, 1986).

I want to mention how great it was to be able to see Poison Idea live, this is a band that has been on my personal bucket list of Punk Rock legends that I needed to see in person! They didn’t disappoint and it was great to see them at a classy joint like the Doll Hut. Iconic lead guitarist (Eric “The Vegetable” Olsen) was shredding on Poison Idea favorites like “Lifestyles”, “Short Fuse”, and “Desecration”. The band played a well rounded set with great songs off of several of their albums with band members Chris “Spider” Carey on bass, Eric “The Vegetable” Olsen on Lead Guitar, Brandon Bentley on guitar, Mickey Widmer on drums, and as always, founding vocalist Jerry A. Lang. I am definitely going to be in the audience to witness these Kings of Punk every time Poison Idea is performing in the area.
