Unit F, Yesterday’s Donuts, and Dead Radio at The Continental Room in Fullerton

We got to catch up with Unit F last Friday at The Continental Room in Fullerton. A cool little bar that has a lot of history… it’s the oldest drinking establishment in the area. The atmosphere was great, a dark and narrow layout with a stage at the very back-end that has red curtains draped across the top and bottom of the front of the stage. There was a lot of red lights, so that’s why all the below images are processed as black and white. The sound was great at this little bar, it was nice to be able to hear Mel’s vocals clear and discernible as well as the shredding guitar riffs from Dave Costa and bass player Guillermo Santacruz… (drummers are lucky, they can always be heard). The stage is a small corner set-up and instead of having the band elevated on a platform, there is a short wall along the bottom that keeps everyone crammed into one section. It feels like a punk rock marionette show with everyone rocking away in their 2′ x 2′ spot.

Yesterday’s Donuts
We didn’t get there in time to see Dead Radio, but we did see Yesterday’s Donuts. They’re a young band from Roland Heights/Fullerton, CA. They have a definite Nirvana influenced sound, everything from the guitar to the vocals, and it was very well done, not a karaoke style conglomeration, but an original set that served more as a tribute. They also performed a cover from Sublime (Date Rape) during their set, which also sounded great. We really enjoyed seeing this positive, talented group of young musicians and recommend you see them if you get the chance!
